  • An upstate New York man has been arrested for selling drugs and untaxed cigarettes at the state fair.
New York State Police say Saturday James Scherer Jr. was charged with violating state tax law by selling un-stamped cigarettes from the trunk of his car near a restaurant at the annual fair in Syracuse.
They say the 66-year-old Amherst man was also charged with criminal possession of a controlled substance and selling marijuana.
Police found 91 cartons of untaxed cigarettes, 16 grams of marijuana, .6 grams of cocaine and $2,000 on Scherer at his arrest.
Scherer was arraigned and remanded to jail Saturday and was unavailable for comment. It wasn’t clear if he had an attorney.
    The 12-day fair ends Monday.
