  • A Defenders of Freedom Super Show will take place at the Utica Memorial Auditorium at 400 Oriskany St. West, Utica, on June 28 from 2 to 8 p.m.
The show will be free of charge and open to all military veterans and the general public.
Defenders of Freedom Super Show Event Chair Michael Sportello said all of the resources veterans need will be under one roof.
“The event goal is to bring veterans and the community together for a day of celebration,” he said. “The free event is not profit driven at all. It’s a free event and the Utica Memorial Auditorium has donated use of the building for the event.”
The opening ceremony will begin at 2 p.m.
Big Apple Music will provide music throughout the event.
As a nonprofit community event the community has been working together to organize several veteran benefit organizations for the Defenders of Freedom Super Show.
Registration for enrollment of available benefits include Veterans Administration health care benefits, Clear Path benefits, the Vet Center of Watertown, Feed Our Vets and the Utica Food Bank, Tri Care benefits, BHG Bailey’s Home Grown Community Supported Agriculture, the Compeer Vet-2-Vet program, the Wounded Warrior Project and Soldier On. To be considered for benefits veterans must bring supporting documentation.
“A lot of great attention is being brought to the event and it’s important the vets come out,” said Sportello. “As a retired member of the Army and a local veteran advocate born and raised in Herkimer, it’s an honor for me to do this for my brothers and sisters. Since I’ve been given the opportunity to put this together it would be a shame if people missed it because it’s going to be the biggest vet event this area has ever seen.”
The Defenders of Freedom Super Show is brought in part by the Purple Heart Association, VFW, DAV, Marine Corps League, American legion, Elks Lodge, AMVETS, veterans friendly businesses and political leaders.
Event sponsors include Big Apple Music, Galazy Communications, Mission Protect, Heroes Home Advantage, Ladd Agency Exclusive Realtors, Harley-Davidson Motor Cycles, A&P Master Images and event organizers Mary Raska, of Ambit Energy, and Tonya Diable, of Heroes Home Advantage.
