  • Therese A. Ray, age 85, of Steuben Hill Road, passed away peacefully on Wednesday, Aug. 14, 2013, in Folts Homes.
She was born on Oct. 27, 1927, in Mohawk, a daughter of the late John and Marie McDonald Hassett. A lifelong area resident, she was raised and educated in Mohawk, graduating from Mohawk High School. On Oct. 24, 1953, she was united in marriage to Harold Ray in Blessed Sacrament Church, Mohawk. She led a devoted Catholic life and was a communicant of Blessed Sacrament Church.
Therese's life was full of love and adventure. She enjoyed crafting items for which she won many awards. Cruising with her husband in St. Lawrence, Bahamas or the Greek Island, as well as a trip to Ireland, were treasured memories to be shared. She was also a member of the Minnowbrook Garden Club. Her flower gardens were the envy of many. Her selfless love lives on in each member of her family, and she will be greatly missed.
Surviving besides her husband, Harold, of almost 60 years, are her daughters, Pamela Metott and her companion, Robert Luther, of Ilion, and Penny Garski, of Herkimer; a brother, Edward Hassett and his wife, Shirley, of Mohawk; a sister, Helen Lynch and her husband, Donald, of Trophy Club, Texas; six grandchildren, Joseph Metott and his companion, Lindsey Dodge, Scott Metott and his wife, Karly, all of Mohawk, Brandy Metott, and Taylor, Tyler and Tarra Garski, all of Herkimer; four great-grandchildren, Joey, Carter, Casey and Brynlee Metott; and several nieces, nephews and cousins. Besides her parents, she was preceded in death by two infant sons, Harold Ray, III, in 1956, and Bradley Ray, in 1957; a son-in-law, Joseph Metott, in 1996; and a sister, Mary James.
A funeral service will be held on Saturday at noon in the Wakeman Chapel of Folts Homes, 104 N. Washington St., Herkimer. The family will be present in the chapel on Saturday from 11 a.m. until noon (one hour prior to the funeral service). Interment at Mohawk Cemetery will be private and at the convenience of the family.
Expressions of sympathy may be made with memorial donations to Folts Homes. Envelopes will be available at the chapel.
Funeral arrangements are with Fenner Funeral Home, Inc., Herkimer.
