The American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley will offer an orientation program for new volunteers from 4 to 7 p.m. on Wednesday, Aug. 21, at the Oneonta Elks Club, 84-86 Chestnut St., Oneonta.
Red Cross staff members and volunteers will introduce participants to Red Cross volunteer opportunities available in their communities. The Red Cross is seeking people with various backgrounds, talents and skills to supplement a volunteer base that comprises 95 percent of the Mohawk Valley workforce.
“Whether we’re finding lodging for one displaced family or hundreds of flood victims or providing care and comfort to an ill or injured member of the armed forces, our vital work is made possible by our volunteers,” said Jennifer Balog, community executive of the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley, in a news release. “It is through the time and care of ordinary people that the Red Cross does extraordinary things.”
Red Cross volunteer opportunities include office assistant; chapter receptionist; blood drive support; first aid and CPR instructor; community presenter and disaster services.
RSVP for the Aug. 21 volunteer orientation to Paulette Loomis at 733-4666 or firstname.lastname@example.org, and apply online at www.redcross.org/ny/utica/volunteer.
