President Barack Obama's visit to Central New York this week is expected to cause delays and temporary closures on the Thruway, state officials said.
Obama will be visiting Buffalo, Rochester and Syracuse, as well as other parts of Upstate New Yrok on Thursday and Friday.
Motorists may encounter temporary road closures, slow or stopped traffic, or temporary on-ramp closures during the presidential visit. They may also be unable to re-enter the roadway from Thruway service plazas or rest areas at some times, a news release stated.
"The Thruway Authority thanks motorists for their patience and understanding during this special event," the release stated.
Travelers are encouraged to visit www.thruway.ny.gov for real-time traffic updates. Drivers also can sign up for TransAlert emails with traffic updates at www.thruway.ny.gov/tas/index.shtml or follow @ThruwayTraffic on Twitter.
