The Herkimer County Historical Society will lead a walking tour of Oak View Cemetery in Frankfort on Monday, Aug, 26, begining at 6 p.m.
Participants are asked to meet historical society members at the cemetery on Cemetery Street in Frankfort near the Herkimer County Fairgrounds, and to try to park on side streets near the cemetery.
The cemetery is the resting place for a number of notable people who played a large role in Frankfort’s history, like the founder of Gates Match Factory, a doctor who “almost” played a large role in the Chester Gillette case and the first African-American player in organized baseball, according to a news release. Susan Perkins, executive director of the historical society, will lead the tour.
