  • Is Tori Spelling returning to scripted TV?
The former Beverly Hills, 90210 star is set to star in a new half-hour comedy pilot for ABC Family, the cable channel announced Friday. Mystery Girls, which Spelling will also executive-produce, will star Spelling as a former starlet who begins solving crimes with her former mystery TV show costar when a witness to a crime will only speak to the infamous Mystery Girls. Single Ladies' Maggie Malina will also executive-produce the pilot written by Shepard Boucher.
ABC Family ordered two other half-hour comedies. Work Mom is a workplace comedy about a woman named Heather, who finally gets promoted at her digital marketing company and ends up hiring her recently unemployed mother. However, her extroverted mother, Eden, mixes up the office in unexpected ways. Grant Levy and Bunheads' Dominik Rothbard wrote the pilot.

In Young and Hungry, a well-off young tech entrepreneur named Nick hires a feisty young food blogger named Gabi to be his personal chef. Written by David Holden (Accidentally on Purpose), the pilot will be executive-produced by Two and a Half Men's Eric and Kim Tannenbaum, Ashley Tisdale and Jessica Rhoades.
"We have seen great success with our comedy series and look to grow our comedy offerings. These pilots offer a great mix of humor and iconic characters," ABC Family's Executive Vice President, Original Programming and Development and Chief Creative Officer, Kate Juergens, said in a statement.
