WESTMINSTER, Md. — After a knee injury sidelined her as a sophomore, Sarah Meszler made a strong return to the field, scoring a goal in each game over the weekend as McDaniel College started its season with overtime wins Saturday against Randolph-Macon College and Sunday against York College.
Meszler’s second-half goal gave McDaniel a 3-2 lead in a game it eventually won 4-3 in double-overtime. She tapped home a ball originally struck by teammate Lara Haab. Julie Little’s second goal of the game ended the contest in the 87th minute of play.
Sunday put the Green Terror on the road and York rallied from a 4-2 deficit to force overtime with a pair of goals in the final 10 minutes of regulation play. Little once again notched the game-winner, completing her first collegiate hat trick and giving her team a 5-4 victory at 78:28. Meszler had scored with an assist from Sara Reynolds for a 3-2 McDaniel lead in the second half. York had led 2-1 at halftime but McDaniel scored three times in 11 minutes to build its two-goal advantage.
