  • GIRLS' TENNIS: Sauquoit Valley tops short-handed Herkimer

  • SAUQUOIT VALLEY 3, HERKIMER 2
    EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — Sauquoit Valley’s top two singles layers were winners Friday and the Indians defeated the short-handed Herkimer Magicians 3-2.
    Playing with six players in their lineup, the Magicians forfeited at third singles and spotted the Indians a 1-0 lead.
    Ella Brutsky and Dana Bever both won 2-0 in singles play for the Indians, defeating Maxine Grogan and Rachel Roberts, respectively.
    Both Herkimer doubles teams were victorious in straight sets. Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand were 6-4, 6-3 winners against Rena Topor and Maiah DeGeronimo while Deanna Straw and Adiba Ward beat Teresa Moses and Hayley Carchedi by matching scores of 6-1 and 6-1.
    The Magicians’ next match is Tuesday at Canastota.

    1, Ella Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Maxine Grogan (Herkimer), 6-1, 6-0.
    2, Dana Bever (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Rachel Roberts (Herkimer), 6-2, 6-3.
    3, Tanya Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) won by forfeit.
    Doubles
    1, Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand (Herkimer) defeated Rena Topor and Maiah DeGironimo (Sauquoit Valley), 6-4, 6-3.
    2, Deanna Straw and Adiba Ward (Herkimer) defeated Teresa Moses and Hayley Carchedi (Sauquoit Valley), 6-1, 6-1.
