St. David’s Society of Utica is presenting two college students with scholarships for the 2013 - 2014 school year, according scholarship chairperson David Dudgeon.
According to Dudgeon, the understanding, promotion and perpetuation of the Welsh-American culture is a primary mission of St. David’s Society.
One L. John Blumberg scholarship is being awarded this year. This $500 scholarship has been presented for seven years to students who are pursuing an education in journalism or music. The Blumberg award was given to Alexandra L. Wynne of Holland Patent. She graduated this year from Holland Patent Central School and will begin her first year at Ithaca College with a major in integrated marketing communications. She is the daughter of Douglas and Jill Wynne of Holland Patent.
A second $500 scholarship, from the St. David’s Society Trust Fund, was awarded to Katelyn M. Rounds of Whitesboro. Rounds is a third year nursing student at St. Elizabeth College of Nursing in Utica. She is the daughter of Karen Rounds-Cleary and Daniel Rounds of Whitesboro and the granddaughter of Janet Washburn also of Whitesboro.
According to St. David’s Society President Mary Lou Rosecrants, donations to the scholarship fund may be sent to St. David’s Society Trust Fund in care of Treasurer Susan Bartholomew at P.O. Box 21, Remsen, NY 13438.
