  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Magicians win with full lineup

  • CANASTOTA — Playing at full strength for the first time this season, the Herkimer Magicians defeated Canastota 3-2 and earned their first victory.
    Handcuffed by forfeits in singles play, the Magicians were beaten 3-2 in their first two matches against Waterville and Sauquoit Valley. Herkimer entered a full lineup on the road Tuesday and won two of the three singles matches and split in doubles play.
    Maxine Grogan and Rachel Roberts, the Nos. 1 and 2 singles players for the Magicians, were straight sets winners and lost just three games between them. Grogan defeated Megan D’Amico 6-1, 6-0 and Roberts was a 6-0, 6-2 winner against Megan Winters.
    Viktoria Yudchits and Jessica Wiegand gave Herkimer a win in doubles play, defeating Anna Mason and Juli Palamara 7-5, 6-2.
    Destiny Swenson won 6-0, 6-0 in singles play for Canastota and Alyssa Rapasadi and Alexis Ezman came back from a first-set loss to win 2-1 in their doubles match.
    Herkimer is home Thursday for a match against Clinton while Canastota plays at Little Falls the same day.

    CLINTON — The Clinton Warriors were 4-1 winners at home Tuesday against Central Valley Academy.
    Olivia Kodsy and Carly Sinclair were singles winners for Clinton and both of the Warriors’ doubles teams were victorious.
    Kelly North, playing first singles, had the lone Central Valley Academy victory. North was a 6-4, 6-0 winner against Shannon Cherpak.
    Central Valley Academy has a match at home Thursday against Waterville while Clinton plays at Herkimer.

    1, Laura Hopkins and Rebecca Williams (Clin) defeated Kacey Visser and DaniLynn Engert, 6-4, 5-7, 7-6 (7-5).
    2, Esther Mazor and Claire Lashinger (Clin) defeated Brandy Torres and Amanda Dahl, 7-5, 6-2.

    HOLLAND PATENT — The Sauquoit Valley Indians swept singles play Tuesday and kept their record perfect with a 3-2 victory against Holland Patent.
    Ella Brutsky, Dana Bever and Tanya Brutsky all won in straight sets in singles play as Sauquoit Valley won for the third time without a loss.
    Page 2 of 2 - Holland Patent took both doubles matches.
