  • DOLGEVILLE, N.Y. — The Dolgeville Blue Devils scored 28 points in the second quarter Saturday and cruised to a 42-11 victory over Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton in Dan Zilkowski’s varsity head coaching debut.
The Blue Devils already led 7-2 when Jason Nastovski scooted through a hole from one yard out for the first of his two touchdowns. Reid Johnson threw scoring passes of 35 and 30 yards to Johann Doerrer and Devin Coonradt ran an interception back 85 yards before halftime to give Dolgeville a 35-3 lead at the intermission at Bynon Field.
Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton’s Vipers, winners of their final six games last fall, had a pair of chances to score in the opening period but came away with only a short field goal. The Vipers had a first down at Dolgeville’s 35-yard line on their opening drive but a third-down sack by Jimmy Doolittle was followed by an incomplete pass and the Blue Devils took over on downs at their own 33.
Dolgeville needed only three plays to put its firs points on the board. A 42-yard run by Nastovski was followed by Coonradt’s 11-yard touchdown run.
A facemask penalty tacked onto a 34-yard run by Nick Christman gave Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton a first down at the Dolgeville 2 on its next possession but a series of penalties backed the Vipers up. A false start was followed by Blue Devil Austin Kollbeck tackling E.J. Hackney for a loss. The Vipers committed another false start and two short runs wee followed by Kyle Hagmann’s 27-yard field goal which had just enough distance to get over the crossbar.
Nastovski’s 43-yard run was the final Dolgeville touchdown in the third quarter and kicker Greg Pelan capped a 6-for-6 day by adding the Blue Devils’ final point.
Christman threw a touchdown pass to Logan Bailey in the fourth quarter for the Vipers.
Nastovski led Dolgeville with 142 yards on nine carries while Coonradt ran 10 times for 80 yards. Doerrer’s touchdowns were the Blue Devils’ only completed passes.
Hackney ran for 80 yards for Morrisville-Eaton/Hamilton. Three passers combined to go 10-for-19 for 92 yards with three interceptions.
The Blue Devils play on the road Friday at Herkimer.
