  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Magicians top Bulldogs

  • EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — The Herkimer Magicians swept singles play Tuesday and defeated Westmoreland’s Bulldogs 3-2.
    Maxine Grogan, Rachel Roberts and Jamie Vincent all won in straight sets for Herkimer and Vincent did not lose a game in her match. Grogan won by scores of 6-2 and 6-0 while Roberts was a 6-1, 6-3 winner.
    Westmoreland entered winners in both doubles matches.
    The Magicians travel to Ilion Thursday for a match against Central Valley Academy.
    HERKIMER 3, WESTMORELAND 2
    Singles
    1, Maxine Grogan (Herkimer) defeated Lindsey Cornacchia (Westmoreland), 6-2, 6-0.
    2, Rachel Roberts (Herkimer) defeated Gabrielle Duell (Westmoreland), 6-1, 6-3.
    3, Jamie Vincent (Herkimer) defeated Roksolyana Thachuk (Westmoreland), 6-0, 6-0.
    Doubles
    1, Alyssa Bowers and Bailey Hryb (Westmoreland) defeated Jessica Wiegand and Viktoria Yudchits (Herkimer), 6-4, 7-5.
    2, Blake Crandall and Olivia Merrill (Westmoreland) defeated Deanna Straw and Adiba Ward (Herkimer), 6-2, 6-0.
    Records — Westmoreland 1-4; Herkimer 2-4.
    LITTLE FALLS 3, HOLLAND PATENT 2
    LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — A pair of three-set wins in singles play put Little Falls over the top Tuesday in a 3-2 victory against Holland Patent.
    The Mounties swept singles play but Lindsey Tolman and Samantha Ackerman each had to play a third set and win to earn her victory. Elaine Zawtocki was a 6-1, 6-4 winner at No. 1 singles; Tolman defeated Jennifer Zielinski 6-1, 3-6, 7-5 at No.2; and Ackerman came back from losing her first set to beat Sarena Zinkovitch 2-6, 6-4, 6-1 at No. 3.
    Both Holland Patent doubles teams were winners.
    Little Falls had a match postponed Wednesday at Clinton and will make it up as part of a Sept. 19 doubleheader when the Warriors visit the Veterans Memorial Park courts. The Mounties play at home Thursday against Westmoreland.

    1, Elaine Zawtocki (Little Falls) defeated Laura Panzone (Holland Patent), 6-1, 6-4.
    2, Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls) defeated Jennifer Zielinski (Holland Patent), 6-1, 3-6, 7-5.
    3, Samantha Ackerman (Little Falls) defeated Sarena Zinkovitch (Holland Patent), 2-6, 6-4, 6-1.
    Doubles
    1, Lindy Callihan and Bethanne Torraco (Holland Patent) defeated Sienna Caracane and Trisha Shaffer (Little Falls), 7-6 (7-0), 6-4.
    2, Ashley Parent and Nuala Woods (Holland Patent) defeated Elizabeth Simonelli and Alyssa Hyney (Little Falls), 6-4, 6-4.
    Records — Holland Patent 1-5; Little Falls 4-1.
    SAUQUOIT VALLEY 4, CANASTOTA 1
    CANASTOTA, N.Y. — The Sauquoit Valley Indians swept doubles play and won of the the three singles matches Tuesday in a 4-1 victory at Canastota.
    Tanya Brutsky and Rena Topor won at first and third singles for the undefeated Indians. Ella Brutsky and Dana Bever, ordinarily the second and third singles players in the Sauquoit Valley lineup, teamed up to win at first doubles match and Kira Baran and Isabella Arrigo were winners at second.
    Page 2 of 2 - Destiny Swanson gave Canastota its lone win at second singles.

    3, Rena Topor (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Megan Winters (Canastota), 6-3, 6-4.
