  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Adirondack’s boys and Poland’s girls were the class of the field Thursday at Little Falls’ six-team Center State Conference dual meet.
The meet was rescheduled from Wednesday when the heat index — and the threat of thunderstorms — prompted its postponement.
The Adirondack boys scored wins in their duals against Little Falls Poland and an incomplete Sherburne-Earlville squad. Poland’s girls beat Little Falls 23-34 while neither Adirondack nor Hamilton entered a full lineup. West Canada Valley was also scheduled to compete but forfeited because it was short on practices.
Adirondack’s Ryan O’Rourke, the second finisher at last fall’s CSC championship meet, set the pace for the five-kilometer loop starting in front of Little Falls Middle School and passing the city reservoir on way to the municipal golf course. O’Rourke’s time of 18:02 was 66 seconds faster than that of teammate Connor Hrynuk, the runner-up. Dallas Robinson was next to cross the finish line, giving the Wildcats a sweep of the top three spots. Sam Yallowitz of Little Falls ran 19:45 to finish fourth on his home course with teammates Tristen Carrig, Trey Demeree and Tristan Dunn also placing in the top 10.
Hamilton’s Sage Hurta bested Adirondack’s Meghann Tanner in individual competition to win the girls’ race; each placed eighth in her respective class last year at the Section III championship meet and Hurta owns a second-place finish in Class D as a seventh-grader in 2010. Poland teammates Tara Seigle and Shiane Irwin ran third and fourth while seventh-place Natasha Scalice was Little Falls’ top finisher.
Both Little Falls squads were 4-1 in dual meet scoring while Poland’s boys were 2-3.
