  • Today in the News: ABC, CBS misidentify Navy Yard shooter

    In echoes of the Boston Marathon bombing case, media outlets wrongly identified a shooter in today’s Navy Yard rampage. NBC News and CBS News both ran a name but not long after retracted it. CBS tweeted, "BREAKING.@johnmillercbs advises the initial reports identifying the suspected shooter as Rollie Chance are wrong." And NBC not long after tweeted, "NBC News: we are now NOT reporting name of shooter; retracting that report. deleting those tweets."

    "We still don't know all the facts. But we do know that several people have been shot and some have been killed. So we are confronting yet another mass shooting. And today it happened on a military installation in our nation's capital." - President Barack Obama, talking this afternoon about the Navy Yard shootings in Washington, D.C., that has left at least 13 people dead.
