The 2013 FarmSafe for Kidz poster winners were announced at the annual Farmers’ Museum Junior Show in Cooperstown.
Winners were as follows:
• 8 years old and younger: Jeffrey Palmatier, of Delaware County, first place; and Abbie Ainslie, of Herkimer County, second place.
• 9 to 12 years old: Aidan Ainslie, of Herkimer County, first place; and Robert Opalka, of Montgomery County, second place.
• 13 years of age and older: Victoria Opalka, of Montgomery County; and Alexandria Opalka, of Montgomery County second place.
First place winners and second place winners received gift checks in the amounts of $30 and $20, respectively. All participants, 15 in total, received a NYCAMH hat for their artistic farm safety efforts.
The poster contest is sponsored each year by the New York Center for Agricultural Medicine and Health through the George Fuller Memorial Fund and this year was co-sponsored by Reality Check.
This year’s judges were Marybeth Vargha, Andy Meyers and Patrick Mellors. The contest coordinator was Rosemary Brodersen.
Category topics for the contest are based on farm injuries and fatalities reported in New York, with this year’s topic entitled “Tractor Safety.”
