  • Robert L. Gray, 78, of Salisbury, passed away on Monday evening, Sept. 16, 2013, peacefully at his home, with his loving family surrounding him.
    He was born on June 26, 1935, a son of the late Harold and Ruby (Ward) Gray. Bob was educated in Dolgeville and Little Falls schools. He enlisted in the United States Marine Corps in October 1952 and served during the Korean War as a private first class. Bob earned the National Defense Service Medal, Korean Service Medal and the United Nations Service Medal. In November 1955, Bob was honorably discharged. He was a proud United States Marine Corps veteran.
    For 29 years, Bob shared his life with his companion, Janette Jaikin. Their devoted relationship combined their families as one.
    Bob spent most of his life employed by road construction for Talerico Construction of Little Falls for 30 years, until his retirement. In younger years, Bob went to technical school for small engine repair while he worked for Provorst Motors of Dolgeville.
    Bob was interested in old tractor restoration, hunting and spending time with his family. He was a lifetime member of the Dolgeville Fire Department. Bob was well-known within his community and known as a devoted family man. He will be greatly missed by all who knew him.
    He is survived by his beloved companion, Janette Jaikin, at home; his children, Michelle Frederick and her fiance, Terry Comstock, of Dolgeville, Robert Gray and his wife, Teresa, of Virginia Beach, Va., and Wayne Gray, of Hardeeville, N.C.; two stepsons, Randy Kilmartin and his wife, Evett, of California, and James Kilmartin, of Appalachia; sisters, Dorothy Young, of Oppenheim, Judy Hall and her husband, Zane, of Clifton Park, Ruby Grande and her husband, Jack, of Greenville, and Mary Wright and her husband, Duane, of Greenville; a brother, Ronald Gray and his wife, Pat, of Oppenheim; 25 grandchildren; several great-grandchildren and many nieces, nephews and cousins.
    Bob was predeceased by a special son, Ricky Allen Gray, in 1980, and his siblings, Donna Shepardson, Charles Gray and Harold Gray.
    Relatives and friends are invited to calling hours which will be held on Thursday, Sept. 19, 2013, from 4 to 8 p.m. at Miller-Plonka Funeral Home, 30 Wolf St., Dolgeville. A funeral service will be held on Friday, Sept. 20, 2013, at 11 a.m. at the funeral home with Pastor Lynn Lockwood officiating. Military honors will be given at the funeral home following the service.
