WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties capitalized on one penalty corner before halftime and another after to defeat Mt. Markham’s previously unbeaten Mustangs 2-0 on the road Wednesday.
Both goals came late in the halves. The teams were scoreless until Sarah Reardon scored with an assist from Sierra McCarthy 4:53 before the end of the first half.
Sydney McCarthy added a a goal off a corner to all but clinch the victory with 4:02 left to play in regulation. The Mounties played the initial hit beyond the edge of the circle and McCarthy was stationed in front of the cage to sweep the ball in off a rebound.
The Mounties (4-1-0) won despite being outshot 13-11 and shut the Mustangs out on nine corners of their own. Goalie Kristi Torres was credited with 14 saves for Little Falls while Amanda Otis had nine for Mt. Markham (2-1-2).
Little Falls plays at home Friday against Clinton under the Veterans Memorial Park lights. Mt. Markham travels to Ilion Friday for a game against Central Valley Academy.
