  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Herkimer beats Waterville 4-1

  • EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — Herkimer won all but the first singles match Thursday and defeated the Waterville Indians 4-1.
    Rachel Roberts and Anna Huhko won in straight sets in singles play for the Magicians and Viktoria Yudchits and Elly Pontius did the same at second doubles. Herkimer’s Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand were 6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3 winners in their doubles match against Chloe Keating and Sydney Jones.
    Autumn Fallon was a three-set winner in the first singles match for Waterville.
    HERKIMER 4, WATERVILLE 1

    1, Autumn Fallon (Waterville) defeated Maxine Grogan (Herkimer), 6-3, 4-6, 6-4.
    2, Rachel Roberts (Herkimer) defeated Megan Eastman (Waterville), 6-0, 6-0.
    3, Anna Huhko (Herkimer) defeated Madyson Bridge (Waterville), 6-3, 6-1.
    Doubles
    1, Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand (Herkimer) defeated Chloe Keating and Sydney Jones (Waterville), 6-2, 6-7 (7-4), 6-3.
    2, Viktoria Yudchits and Elly Pontius (Herkimer) defeated Alexis Easton and Brooke DiMare (Waterville), 6-4, 6-2.

    SAUQUOIT VALLEY 3, CENTRAL VALLEY ACADEMY 2
    ILION, N.Y. — A doubles sweep helped the Sauquoit Valley Indians keep their perfect record intact Wednesday when they defeated Central Valley Academy’s Thunder 3-2.
    Kelly North and Abby McCann were three-set winners at first and third singles, respectively, for the Thunder. North came back after losing her first set and defeated Tanya Brutsky 4-6, 6-4, 6-4. McCann was also down a set in her 1-6, 6-4, 7-5 win against Rena Topor.
    Maiah DeGironimo won at second singles for the Indians. Ella Brutsky and Dana Bever, the Center State Conference tournament champions at first and second singles, beat DaniLynn Engert and Kacey Visser 6-1, 6-1 in the first doubles play. Isabella Arrigo and Kira Baran won the second doubles match for Sauquoit Valley.

    3, Abby McCann (Central Valley Academy) defeated Rena Topor (Sauquoit Valley), 1-6, 6-4, 7-5.

    1, Dana Bever and Ella Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) defeated DaniLynn Engert and Kacey Visser (Central Valley), 6-1, 6-1.

    LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Clinton’s undefeated Warriors notched two more wins Thursday by sweeping a doubleheader from the Little Falls Mounties at the Veterans Memorial Park courts.
    The Warriors are 8-0 after winning 3-2 and 4-1. They swept singles play and had a pair of three-set wins in the 4-1 match and split a pair of tie-breakers in the 3-2 victory.
    Page 2 of 2 - Shannon Cherpak, the No. 1 singles player for Clinton, won both of her matches, as did the No. 1 doubles team of Rebecca Williams and Esther Mazor. Mazor and Williams dropped the first set of their win in the 4-1 match but came back to beat Lindsey Tolman and Trisha Shaffer 4-6, 6-0, 6-4. Olivia Kodsy and Laura Hopkins were winners in singles play the 4-1 match and Lauren Hutchins won in third singles play in the 3-2 match. Hopkins won her singles match in three sets.
    Elizabeth Simonelli had wins in doubles play with two different partners for Little Falls. Simonelli and Emilee Burleigh defeated Courtney Wigderson and Brooke Wooldridge 10-4. Simonelli and Alyssa Hyney were 6-4, 3-6, 6-1 winners against Sydney Pavlik and Brianna Kaufman.
    Samantha Ackerman had the lone singles win of the day for Little Falls.

    1, Shannon Cherpak (Clinton) defeated Elaine Zawtocki (Little Falls), 11-10 (7-5).
    2, Samantha Ackerman (Little Falls) defeated Olivia Kodsy (Clinton), 11-10 (7-2).
    3, Lauren Hutchins (Clinton) defeated Alyssa Hyney (Little Falls), 10-5.
