  • BOYS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: WCV beats Westmoreland 1-0

  • NEWPORT, N.Y. — Tyler Wright scored a goal assisted by Matt Zbytniewski before halftime Friday and the West Canada Valley Indians defeated Westmoreland’s Bulldogs 1-0.
    Michael Sternberg recorded 11 saves in the shutout for West Canada Valley (4-1-0).
    Zach Dunning made 26 saves for Westmoreland (3-4-0).
    The Indians play at home Wednesday against Vernon-Verona-Sherrill.
    WEBB, N.Y. — Dustin DuBrule had a goal and an assist Friday and Mark Hennings had two assists as the Poland Tornadoes picked up a 3-1 win against the Old Forge Eskimos.
    All of the goals were scored in the first half. Ross Agen and Cameron Tabor each scored once for the Tornadoes and Cy Barkauskas had the lone goal for the Eskimos.
    Mitch Jones made five saves for Poland. John Gaffney had six for Old Forge.
    WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs scored first Friday but the Cooperstown Hawkeyes came away with a 3-1 victory on the road.
    Kris Pontero scored for the Mustangs (2-5-0) with an assist from Davide Delia at the 26-minute mark.
    Two goals in the final three minutes of the first half put Cooperstown in the lead and the Hawkeyes (3-1-0) found the back of the net again early in the second. Jeremiah Parr and Parek Sommers scored before halftime and Raymond Cabrera struck seven minutes after.
    Kevin Frevele made eight saves for Cooperstown and Mike Gras had seven for Mt. Markham.
    The Mustangs play Monday in Waterville.
    SPRINGFIELD CENTER, N.Y. — The Owen D. Young Wildcats overcame a Brandon English hat trick Friday and defeated Waterville’s Indians 5-3 to keep their record perfect.
    Matthew Cristman scored two goals for the Wildcats (5-0-0) while Jeffrey Yaun, Bradlee Edick and Ryan Crouse each had one. Andrey Drozdov made seven saves.
    English scored all three goals for the Indians (3-4-0). Logan Fallon and Keith Prindle each made five saves.
    Owen D. Young plays on the road Monday against Hamilton/Morrisville-Eaton.
    CLINTON, N.Y. — The Clinton Warriors pumped in five goals in the first half Friday and defeated Frankfort-Schuyler’s Maroon Knights 8-0.
    Matt Orlando and Steve Gleasman each scored two goals for the Warriors, Carlos Espinal Jr. had a goal and an assist, and O’Neil Campbell and Nishant Sharma each had two assists. The other goal-scorers were Steve Calidonna, Alex Dobrzenski and Alec Firsching
    Trenton Skinner and Jared Vu combined to make 11 saves for Frankfort-Schuyler.
    The Maroon Knights take on Central Valley Academy Monday.
