  • Cruises in Paradise travel agency in Marcy will host a silent auction to benefit the American Red Cross from noon to 3 p.m. on Sunday, Sept. 29, at the Holiday Inn, 1777 Burrstone Rd., New Hartford.
Proceeds from the auction will benefit the Disaster Relief Fund for the American Red Cross of Central New York.
The fund is used to support Red Cross relief efforts for the more than 2,000 families whose homes were destroyed or damaged by the floods this past summer in the Mohawk Valley and Madison County.
“You can find the perfect Christmas gift at the auction, while at the same time helping your neighbors whose lives were turned upside down by the floods,” said Marie Latus, owner of Cruises in Paradise, in a news release.
The silent auction items include two gift baskets of goodies from Royal Caribbean Cruise Line, and gift certificates from Enchanted Forest Water Safari, Delmonico’s Steakhouse, Hannaford Supermarket, Holland Farms Bakery and Deli, Napoli’s Italian Bakery and Deli, Outback Steakhouse, Symeon’s Restaurant and Utica Zoo.
Other featured items include several books autographed by Mario Batali, Sam Roberts, Brad Meltzer, Ross Mathews, Julianna Baggott, Dean Koontz and Douglas Preston and Lincoln Child.
“The late June floods were devastating to thousands of residents in the Mohawk Valley and nearby areas, and the funds raised from the silent auction will go toward our efforts to aid the long-term recovery of those residents,” said Jennifer Balog, community executive of the American Red Cross of the Mohawk Valley, in the release.
