  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Sauquoit Valley remains perfect

  • SAUQUOIT, N.Y. — Riding the strength of its singles lineup, the Sauquoit Valley Indians defeated Clinton 3-2 Wednesday in the season’s first meeting between the Center State Conference’s two undefeated squads.
    Ella Brutsky, Dana Bever and Tanya Brutsky, all champions of their respective flights at the CSC Tournament, were straight-sets winners in singles play for the Indians Wednesday. Ella Brutsky defeated Shannon Cherpak 6-1, 6-2, Bever beat Olivia Kodsy 6-2, 6-0, and Tanya Brutsky was a 6-0, 6-4 winner against Carly Sinclair.
    Clinton took the two doubles matches with Esther Mazor and Sydney Park bouncing a 6-0 loss in the second set then winning a tie-breaker in the third. Laura Hopkins and Rebecca Williams won at first doubles.

    Singles
    1, Ella Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Shannon Cherpak (Clinton), 6-1, 6-2.
    2, Dana Bever (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Olivia Kodsy (Clinton), 6-2, 6-0.
    3, Tanya Brutsky (Sauquoit Valley) defeated Carly Sinclair (Clinton), 6-0, 6-4.
    Doubles
    1, Laura Hopkins and Rebecca Williams (Clinton) defeated Maiah DeGironimo and Rena Topor (Sauquoit Valley), 6-4, 6-2.
    2, Esther Mazor and Sydney Pavlik (Clinton) defeated Isabella Arrigo and Kira Baran (Sauquoit Valley), 7-5, 0-6, 7-6 (7-1).
    Records — Clinton 11-1; Sauquoit Valley 12-0.
    WESTMORELAND 5, HERKIMER 0
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs evened their record at 6-6 with Wednesday’s 5-0 victory over the Herkimer Magicians.
    Lindsay Cornacchia won a second-set tie-breaker to close out her match against Magician Rachel Roberts and Bulldogs Gabriella Duell and Alyssa Bowers also won in straight sets in singles play.
    Both Westmoreland doubles teams were 2-0 winners.

    1, Lindsey Cornacchia (Westmoreland) defeated Rachel Roberts (Herkimer), 6-3, 7-6 (7-4).
    2, Gabrielle Duell (Westmoreland) defeated Jessica Wiegand (Herkimer), 6-2, 6-0.
    3, Alyssa Bowers (Westmoreland) defeated Jamie Vincent (Herkimer), 6-2, 6-2.
    Doubles
    1, Bailey Hryb and Olivia Merrill (Westmoreland) defeated Viktoria Yudchits and Adiba Ward (Herkimer), 6-4, 6-1.
    2, Kayla Wren and Roksolyana Thachuk (Westmoreland) defeated Kelsey Bixler and Dominique Storms (Herkimer), 6-1, 6-0.
