The Herkimer Lions Club presented a check for $310 to the Herkimer County Hunger Coalition on Friday.
Rudy Scialdo, chairperson of the club’s 27th annual golf tournament, said donations were made at Hole No. 5 during the Sept. 20 tournament at Pine Hills Golf Course in Frankfort.
“We want to put it right back out to the community,” said Scialdo.
Laura Hailston and Ron Schoonmaker accepted the check on behalf of the coalition.
“It could go towards coats, to the food pantry or even extra gifts for the Gram Lorraine project,” said Hailston. “Sometimes we get late requests from parents who might have just moved into the community.”
“There’s just many projects that it can go towards to help,” said Schoonmaker.
Schoonmaker added, “We want to thank Rudy Scialdo and the Herkimer Lions Club for their generous donation.”
“The Lions Club has always been very community-minded and generous in their donations, and this is an example of their generosity,” said Hailston.
Schoonmaker said, too, that the donation was extra special since this year’s tournament was in memory and honor of Staff Sgt. Marc Anthony Scialdo, a Herkimer native who was killed while serving a tour of duty in Afghanistan.
