  • 8 of 17 seats on Herkimer Co. Legislature to have contested races

  • The Herkimer County Board of Elections has released the full list of county and town candidates for the Nov. 5 general election.
    Eight of the 17 seats that make up the Herkimer County Legislature will have contested races. Current legislators Jean Maneen and Leonard Hendrix are vacating two of the eight seats up for election. Maneen, of Ilion, has represented District No. 4 for 10 years and Hendrix, of Ilion, has served as legislator for District No. 6 for about 37 years.
    There are also contested races for town council, town clerk and superintendent of highways in Fairfield, town council in Frankfort, superintendent of highways in Herkimer, town council in Litchfield, superintendent of highways in the town of Little Falls, superintendent of highways in Manheim, town supervisor and justice in Ohio, superintendent of highways in Russia and superintendent of highways in Salisbury.
    Two of the four wards in the city of Little Falls will have contested races for alderman. Current Alderman Ronald Petrie and Richard Congdon are vacating two of the seats up for election after two years on the Common Council.
    HERKIMER COUNTY LEGISLATURE
    DISTRICT 1
    Democratic incumbent Gary M. Hartman, of Herkimer, will face a challenge from Republican candidate Martin J. Luppino, of Mohawk.
    DISTRICT 2
    Democratic incumbent Helen T. Rose, of Herkimer, will face a challenge from Republican candidate Thomas P. Powers, of Herkimer.
    DISTRICT 3
    Republican incumbent Robert J. Schrader, of Herkimer, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 4
    Democrat Robert A. Drum, of Mohawk, and Republican Bob Wellington, of Ilion, will compete for the seat currently held by Republican Jean Maneen.
    DISTRICT 5
    Republican incumbent Raymond S. Johnson, of Ilion, will face a challenge from Democratic candidate Bridget McKinley, of Ilion.
    DISTRICT 6
    Democrat David Murray, of Ilion, and Republican John P. Stephens, of Ilion, will compete for the seat currently held by Republican Leonard Hendrix.
    DISTRICT 7
    Republican incumbent Robert Hyde, of Mohawk, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 8
    Democratic incumbent John L. Brezinski, of Frankfort, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 9
    Republican incumbent Peter F. Manno, of Frankfort, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 10
    Republican incumbent Raymond D. Smith, of Dolgeville, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 11
    Republican incumbent Vincent J. Bono, of Frankfort, will face a challenge from Republican candidate John Werczynski, of Frankfort.
    DISTRICT 12
    Republican incumbent Kurt J. Ackerman, of Little Falls, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 13
    Republican incumbent Bernard Peplisnki, Jr., of Ilion, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 14
    Republican incumbent Dennis Korce, of Mohawk, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 15
    Republican incumbent Patrick E. Russell, of Old Forge, is unopposed.
    DISTRICT 16
    Republican incumbent Frederick J. Shaw, Jr., of Little Falls, will face a challenge from Democratic candidate Richard A. Souza, of Newport.

    Republican incumbent Bruce F. Weakley, of Poland, will face a challenge from Democratic candidate David Maxwell, of Herkimer, and Green Party candidate Christine Shahin, of Newport.
    COLUMBIA
    Republican George W. Weiss is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans William E. Keeler, Sr. and Theodore B. Teletnick are unopposed for town council, Republican Patricia A. Waytowich is unopposed for town clerk, Republican Aaron G. Smithson is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Republican Richard Inman is unopposed for tax collector.
    DANUBE
    Republican Richard B. Mosher is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans Leonard Pross and Lee Ann Stock are unopposed for town council, Republican Mary Lou Herringshaw is unopposed for town clerk, Values Party candidate Corey LaPorta is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Republican Mary Mosher is unopposed for tax collector.
    FAIFIELD
    Republican Henry A. Crofoot is unopposed for town supervisor, Democrat Larry R. Weakley, Republicans Richard K. Lindsay and James R. Hall and independent candidate James A. Spellman will compete for two seats on the town council, Democrat Tara McCarthy and Republican Mary A. Dineen will compete for town clerk, Republican William F. Dillenbeck and independent candidate Robert J. Carney, IV will compete for superintendent of highways and Republican Melanie Brewer is unopposed for tax collector.
    FRANKFORT
    Republican Joseph P. Kinney is unopposed for town supervisor, Democrat Frank L. Madia is unopposed for town justice and Democrats Mark A. Valent and Michael S. Testa and Republican Darlene A. Balio-Abbatecola will compete for two seats on the town council.
    GERMAN FLATTS
    Republican Frank P. Spatto is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans Robert K. Watkins and Fay G. Davis are unopposed for town council, Republican Marie K. Hennings is unopposed for town clerk, Republican Andrew J. Dutcher is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Republican Cherri L. Hyer is unopposed for tax collector.
    HERKIMER
    Republican Dominic J. Frank is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans Vito F. Carbone and Daniel D. Stalteri are unopposed for town council, Republican Nancy L. Reese is unopposed for town clerk, Republican John A. Richard and Conservative Party candidate David A. McManus will compete for superintendent of highways and Republican Jodi Rivers is unopposed for receiver of taxes.
    LITCHFIELD
    Democrat James D. Entwistle is unopposed for town supervisor, Democrat Mark C. O’Sullivan will compete with Republicans Sean Davis and Terry G. McKane for two seats on the town council, Republican Nicole M. Edwards is unopposed for town clerk, Republican Clifford J. Coffin, Sr. is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Republican Dorothy E. Pope is unopposed for tax collector.
    CITY OF LITTLE FALLS
    Democrat Mark R. Rose is unopposed for city judge, Democrat Kira M. Andrilla is unopposed for city clerk, Democrat David M. Petkovsek is unopposed for city treasurer, Democrats David Gevry and Jeffrey A. Gressler will compete with Republican Jonathan Shaffer for two First Ward alderman seats, Republican Elizabeth Deming and Diamond Party candidate David Burleson are unopposed for two Second Ward alderman seats, Democrat Mark Ruffing, Republican Douglas Barnes, Voice of the People candidate Peter DeLuca and Dark Horse candidate Michael F. Lonis will compete for two Third Ward alderman seats and Democrats Daniel R. Carter and Helen Stransky are unopposed for two Fourth Ward alderman seats.

Allen, Sr. is unopposed for superintendent of highways.

    Republican Judith L. Gokey is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans Craig Gillespie and John Coddington are unopposed for town council, Republican Lara Grower is unopposed for town clerk, Republican Howard A. Eaton is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Republican Constance R. Kemler is unopposed for tax collector.
    OHIO
    Republican Scott D. Bagetis will compete with Democrat Jerry W. Roberts for town supervisor, Republican James P. Krauciunas and Lincoln Party candidate Karen Mowers will compete for town justice, Republicans Gordon A. Roark and Jason F. Maher are unopposed for town council, Republican Sandra J. Gates is unopposed for town clerk, Republican James F. Nightingale is unopposed for superintendent of highways, Republican Berdet A. Barrows is unopposed for assessor and Republican Carol R. Smith is unopposed for tax collector.
    RUSSIA
    Republican Frances J. Donley is unopposed for town supervisor, Republicans Louis J. Gauthier, Sr. and William W. Weakley are unopposed for town justice, Republicans Ronald S. Przelski and Louis A. Bravo are unopposed for town council, Republican Ray Jenkins and United Party candidate William E. Young will compete for superintendent of highways and Republican LuAnn Jenkins is unopposed for tax collector.
    SALISBURY
    Republican Gary E. Farquhar is unopposed for town supervisor, Republican Thomas F. Rathbun, Jr. is unopposed for town justice, Republicans Christopher N. Simpson and Robert J. Grose are unopposed for town council, Republican Stanley Bilinski is unopposed for town clerk and Republican Larry R. Williams, Sr. will compete with Logging Crew candidate Gary G. Lamphere for superintendent of highways.
    SCHUYLER
    Republican Kenneth M. Dodge is unopposed for town supervisor, Republican George J. Luther, II is unopposed for town justice and Republicans Bette I. Szesny and Anthony J. Lucenti are unopposed for town council.

    Democrat Richard E. Bronner is unopposed for town supervisor, Democrat Lynn Rogers is unopposed for town clerk and Republican Anthony Grescheck is unopposed for superintendent of highways. There are no candidates for two town council seats.
    WARREN
    Republican Donald H. Oldick and Agriculture candidate Leslie Miller are unopposed for town council. There is no candidate for town justice.
    WEBB
    Republican Theodore C. Riehle, Jr. is unopposed for town supervisor, Democrat Katie M. Russell and Republican Michael A. Ross are unopposed for town council, Republican Nanci T. Russell is unopposed for town clerk, Republican Casey Crofut is unopposed for superintendent of highways and Democrat Kelly Hunkins is unopposed for tax collector.
    WINFIELD
    Republican Marcia J. Mickie is unopposed for town justice and Republicans Michael P. Peo and Robert E. Royce are unopposed for town council.
    The Election Day polls will be open from 6 a.m. to 9 p.m.
