  • GIRLS' TENNIS ROUNDUP: Mounties score 3-2 win against Magicians

  • LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties defeated Herkimer’s Magicians 3-2 Friday.
    The Mounties took two of the three singles matches and got a three-set win from their top doubles team to clinch the victory. Sienna Caracane and Trisha Shaffer were 6-3, 3-6, 6-3 winners in their match to support Elaine Zawtocki and Samantha Ackerman won won by matching 6-1, 6-4 scores at first and third singles, respectively.
    Rachel Roberts won at second singles for Herkimer and Adiba Ward and Elly Pontius won at second doubles.

    Singles
    1, Elaine Zawtocki (Little Falls) defeated Maxine Grogan (Herkimer), 6-1, 6-4.
    2, Rachel Roberts (Herkimer) defeated Lindsey Tolman (Little Falls), 6-3, 6-4.
    3, Samantha Ackerman (Little Falls) defeated Viktoria Yudchits (Herkimer), 6-1, 6-4.
    Doubles
    1, Sienna Caracane and Trisha Shaffer (Little Falls) defeated Jessica Wiegand and Jamie Vincent (Herkimer), 6-3, 3-6, 6-3.
    2, Adiba Ward and Elly Pontius (Herkimer) defeated Emilee Burleigh and Alyssa Hyney (Little Falls), 6-4, 6-2.
    Records — Herkimer 4-10; Little Falls 8-5.
    CENTRAL VALLEY ACADEMY 5
    CANASTOTA 0
    CANASTOTA, N.Y. — The Central Valley Academy Thunder made a clean sweep Friday and defeated winless Canastota 5-0.
    Kelly North won 6-0, 6-0 at first singles and Central Valley Academy teammates Brooklyn Goff and Abby McCann combined to lose five games at second and third.
    Both doubles teams also won for the Thunder. Kacey Visser and DaniLynn Engert won in straight sets at first doubles and Brandy Torres and Amanda Dahl did the same at second.

    Singles 1, Kelly North (Central Valley Academy) defeated Destiny Swanson (Canastota), 6-1, 6-0.
    2, Brooklyn Goff (Central Valley Academy) defeated Megan Winters (Canastota), 6-1, 6-1.
    3, Abby McCann (Central Valley Academy) defeated Alexis Ezman (Canastota), 6-1, 6-2.

    CLINTON 2
    WESTMORELAND, N.Y. — The Westmoreland Bulldogs swept single play Friday and grabbed a 3-2 win against Clinton.
    Clinton, undefeated prior to Wednesday’s loss to Sauquoit Valley, picked up wins in both doubles matches.
    Lindsey Cornacchia and Gabrielle Duell, playing first and second singles, each won her first set in a tie-breaker. Cornacchia went on to beat Olivia Kodsy in three sets and Duell won in two. Alyssa Bowers was also a 2-0 winner for the Bulldogs at third singles.
    Shannon Cherpak and Laura Hopkins won 2-0 in doubles play for Clinton and Esther Mazor and Claire Lashinger won in three sets.

    WATERVILLE, N.Y. — Waterville’s singles players all won in straight sets Friday and the Indians defeated Holland Patent 4-1.
    Autumn Fallon, Megan Eastman and Madyson Bridge all won 2-0 in singles play and Waterville got a win from its second doubles team of Brooke DiMare and Alexis Easton.
    Lindy Callihan and Bethanne Torraco gave Holland Patent its lone point with a win at first doubles.
