  • Hummel’s Office Plus acquired Norwich-based Hayes Office Products on Oct. 1.
Financial terms of the deal remain confidential.
Hayes Office Products will change its name to Hummel’s Office Plus and continue to operate from its location at 6 E. Main St. in Norwich.
Hummel’s will retain all Hayes employees and continue to service retail customers and commercial delivery accounts.
“The merging of our two local, family owned companies is a great story for Central New York. We are proud of the history of both companies and remain focused on bringing the very best solution to our customers while they procure their business products,” Hummel’s Chief Executive Officer Justin Hummel said in a news release.
Norwich area patrons have enjoyed a local offering of stationery and office products at the downtown Norwich location since the mid-1950s when the Sumner family started the business. The Hayes family took over in 1988 and kept the tradition alive for 25 more years.
According to current owners Missy and Chris Hayes, the timing was perfect for a team approach to market development.
“It’s no secret that technology is impacting how products and services move through society. Hummel’s understands technology and industry trends but they also embrace good old-fashioned customer service. Their strength, fourth generation perspective, and know-how make them the perfect service provider for our customers and market,” Chris Hayes said in the release.
The merger of Hummel’s Office Plus and Hayes Office Products results in more than 100 years of knowledge and expertise in the areas of office supplies, shipping services, retail gifts, office furniture, technology, janitorial and break room products. It also brings Hummel’s Central New York employee base to nearly 100.
“We’re thrilled to have the Hayes employees join the Hummel’s team,” Hummel said. “Hayes customers will benefit from our extensive product offering and competitive pricing structure. We are equally excited that all Hayes employees will be staying to help us take care of our new customers.”
