The Mohawk Fire Department Fire Prevention Team is gearing up for National Fire Prevention Week Oct. 6 to 12.
The team will visit Fisher Elementary School and Jarvis Middle School in Mohawk to present this year’s theme, “Prevent Kitchen Fires,” as well as fire safety basics that members have taught in past years.
The Mohawk Fire Department Fire Prevention Team will offer presentations on Oct. 8 for first to fourth graders. On Oct. 9, the pre-kindergartners and kindergarteners will visit the station for fire prevention education, as well as a tour of the fire station. On Oct. 10, the team will visit Jarvis Middle School and present separate assemblies for fifth and sixth and the seventh and eighth grade students.
The Mohawk Fire Department will host its annual open house on Oct. 9 at 6 p.m. Other organizations, businesses and information will be available to help assist the department in furthering the fire prevention and life safety.
The three groups within the MFD — the fire department, ladies auxiliary and the fire corps — will be on hand to assist anyone looking to be a member of any part of the fire department family.
Refreshments will be provided. There will be activities for children that enrich their fire prevention education.
The Herkimer County Sheriff’s Office will also offer photo IDs of children.
