  • Donald E. Baylor, Sr., of Mohawk, went to be with our Lord on Saturday, Oct. 5, 2013.
Donald was born Dec. 12, 1936, the son of the late Herman James and Sophie Unser Baylor. Don was a graduate of Mohawk Central School, class of 1955. He was united in marriage with Patricia Bala on Oct. 30, 1958.
Don held many jobs throughout his career, taking pride in his carpentry skill when he worked with Ray Johnson of Ilion, Barson’s Construction of Albany and with his sons in 3-B Construction of Mohawk.
Don loved the outdoors with his children; he was an avid hunter and fisherman, and later in life, he enjoyed taking his grandsons fishing on Canadarago Lake. He was first and foremost a family man and was devoted to his son, Jason, at home, whom he enjoyed watching the New York Yankees and all of the NFL football games with. He took great pride in his retirement painting for his niece, Dolly, with her slate crafts.

Don is also survived by a brother and a sister-in-law, Richard and Eleanor Baylor, and four sisters and two brothers-in-law, Patti and Ken Cook, Jean and Robert Hyde, of Mohawk, Susie Hopper, of Endicott, and Theresa Marko, of Herkimer; and his sister-in-law, Marion Baylor, of Herkimer. He is also survived by two brothers and sisters-in-law, Leo and Pat Bala, of Ilion, and Bill and Joanne Bala, of Woodstock, Illinois; and one sister-in-law, Sylvia Bala, of Herkimer. Don is also survived by many nieces and nephews. Don was predeceased by his parents; by his brothers, Herman (Sonny) and Albert; and his sisters, Kathleen (Chick) Phillips and Adelaide Wollaber.
