LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Little Falls Mounties advanced to the quarterfinals of Section III’s Class C team tournament with Saturday’s 3-2 win over the Waterville Indians.
]The Mounties (9-7) are seeded seventh and play at No. 2 Sauquoit Valley, the Center State Conference champion, in the quarterfinals. Sauquoit Valley (15-1) drew a bye for the opening round.
Sienna Caracane and Samantha Ackerman won at second and third singles for Little Falls Saturday and the Lindsey Tolman/Trisha Shaffer team won in doubles play. Caracane defeated Megan Eastman 6-4, 6-2, Ackerman beat Madyson Bridge 6-3, 6-3, and Tolman and Shaffer were 6-2, 6-4 winners against Chloe Keating and Sydney Jones.
Waterville’s Autumn Fallon defeated Elaine Zawtocki in three sets at first singles; Zawtocki won the first set and pushed the second to a tie-breaker. Brooke DiMare and Alexis Easton used a second-set tie-breaker to close out their win against Alyssa Hyney and Emilee Burleigh.
Central Valley Academy also qualified or sectional play and travels to Camden for the first round of Class B competition.
Seeding for the section’s singles and doubles tournament will be announced Thursday.
