Two upstate men have been sentenced to three years in federal prison for a string of bank robberies in New York and Massachusetts earlier this year.
The Observer-Dispatch of Utica reports that 22-year-old Nicholas Ferrone of Utica and Zachariah Edwards of Frankfort were sentenced Tuesday in federal court in Syracuse.
Both men pleaded guilty in May to robbing multiple banks from January through March, netting them more than $24,000. The robberies occurred in the Syracuse and Albany areas and in Chicopee, Mass.
Both men faced up to five years in prison, but their attorneys say the judge imposed a lesser sentenced because Ferrone and Edwards have participated in drug and alcohol rehabilitation programs to treat the addictions that fueled their actions.
Both men have been ordered to pay back the stolen money.
