  • BOYS' SOCCER ROUNDUP: West Canada Valley blanks Herkimer

  • NEWPORT, N.Y. — Michael Sternberg made 10 saves Thursday and the West Canada Valley Indians blanked Herkimer’s Magicians 3-0.
    The Indians (7-5-1, 6-2-0 CSC-II) led 1-0 at halftime at home. Alex Williams and Chase Roesler each had a goal and an assist for the victors. Korey Mizener scored a goal and Brett Greco contributed an assist.
    Austin Perry made 22 saves for Herkimer (4-8-1, 1-7-0 CSC-II).
    REMSEN 1
    WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — The Mt. Markham Mustangs tallied two goals in the second half Thursday and pulled out a 2-1 win against Remsen’s Rams.
    Winless Remsen (0-12-0) led 1-0 at halftime on a goal scored by Andrea Cacciatori with an assist from Steve Gothan.
    Kris Pontero and Matt Bleaking scored in the second half for Mt. Markham (4-9-0). Davide Delia had an assist.
    Mike Gras made six saves for the Mustangs while Andrew Foster had 17 for the Rams.
    ILION, N.Y. — The Sherburne-Earlville Marauders broke a halftime tie and beat Central Valley Academy 2-1 on the road Thursday.
    Elijah Morris and Nathan Piazzi each scored a goal for the Marauders (9-5-0, 8-3-0 CSC-I), Kevin Vibbard and Brian Mead contributed assists and Keith Rose made eight saves.
    Felipe Zenteno scored for Central Valley Academy (5-8-0, 4-7-0 CSC-I) with an assist from Josh Terry. Clay Colburn made 12 saves.
    SPRINGFIELD CENTER, N.Y. — Matthew Cristman netted a hat trick for Owen D. Young Thursday in the Wildcats’ 7-0 shutout win over Richfield Springs’ Indians.
    Bradlee Edick added a goal and an assist to Cristman’s three goals for the Wildcats (10-2-0). Ryan Crouse, Josh Mayton and Jeffrey Yaun each scored a goal and Dustin Monk had an assist. Andrey Drozdov made three saves in the shutout.
    Trenton Dykstra made five saves and Thomas Woroby had four for Richfield Springs (2-10-1).
    POLAND 13
    LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — Ross Agen scored three goals Thursday in the Poland Tornadoes’ 13-0 win over the Little Falls Mounties.
    Mike Sypolt added a pair of goals for Poland which opened the match with an Andrew Taverne goal 44 seconds in. Mike Szarek, Bryce Wenzel, Branden Garrett, Sean Loveless and Allen Johnson all added goals for the unbeaten Tornadoes.
    Cole Douglas had 20 saves for Little Falls.
    Poland meets DeRuyter Saturday at 4 p.m. in the first round of its annual Columbus Day Tournament. The first-round match features Remsen and Holland Patent at noon. The championship match is Sunday at 4 p.m. with a noon start for the consolation.
