UTICA, N.Y. — Central Valley Academy’s Kelly North drew the sixth seed for Division II singles play and Herkimer has a doubles team seeded third in Division IV for Section III’s individual tournaments Monday.
North, beaten once in the finals for the Center State Conference, has a bye into the second round of her tournament at Utica’s John Mott Parkway Tennis Center and will meet the winner of a match between Cortland’s Annie Steve and Homer’s Carly Dove. Jamesville-DeWitt’s Kyrin Pollock is the top seed on the opposite side of the bracket. North is seeded to potentially meet No. 3 Tori Pellegrino of Whitesboro in the quarterfinals and No. 2 Jenna Didio of Oneida in the semifinals.
Central Valley Academy’s top doubles team of Kacey Visser and DaniLynn Engert is unseeded but also has a first-round bye. Visser and Engert will meet the Fulton tandem of Kassidy Kearns and Julia Ludington on their first match. The top seed for the Division II doubles tournament is the New Hartford team of Rachel Madden and Emily Steates.
Herkimer will send two doubles teams to Syracuse to play at the Skytop Complex. Maxine Grogan and Rachel Roberts, sectional doubles qualifiers who primarily played first and second singles for the Magicians, are seeded third with a bye into the quarterfinals where they will take on the winner of a match between teams from Westmoreland and Bishop Grimes of Syracuse. Jamie Vincent and Jessica Wiegand are the second Herkimer entry and will meet Lowville Academy’s Courtney Lehman and Jasmine Roggie with the winners advancing to the quarterfinals against Bishop Grimes’ top team of Tina Hoag and Jordan Vaught, the tournament’s No. 2 seeds.
The top seeds for the Division IV doubles tournament are Ella Brutsky and Dana Bever of Sauquoit Valley. The Indians’ Nos. 1 and 2 singles players get the winners of a first round match between Little Falls Mounties Sienna Caracane and Trisha Shaffer and Lowville Academy’s Ellen Farney and Jessica Fuller.
Sauquoit Valley has a second doubles team entered — Isabella Arrigo and Kira Baran — and Westmoreland has two entries giving the Center State Conference seven of the 12 pairs in the tournament.
The top seed for Division IV singles play is Waterville Indian Autumn Fallon.
Clinton will send three entries to the Division III tournament in Utica — Shannon Cherpak and Olivia Kodsy in singles play and the doubles team of Laura Hopkins and Rebecca Williams. The top seeds are Skaneateles’ Katelyn Ellison in the singles tournament and Makenzi Herbst and Grace Magee in doubles play.
