  • A Herkimer County man was one of 19 people to graduate from the state’s Recruit Firefighter Training Program in Montour Falls.
Kenneth Scanlon, of the Herkimer Fire Department, was part of the 66th RFFT class at the State Office of Fire Prevention and Control’s Academy of Fire Science. The class completed 11 weeks of the program and a total of more than 450 hours of training to receive national certification in firefighting and hazardous material operations.
Gov. Andrew Cuomo issued a statement congratulating the graduates.
“As we recognize Fire Prevention Week, I am pleased to announce that these 19 individuals have graduated from the state’s rigorous firefighter training program, preparing them for the critically important service they will provide,” Cuomo said in the statement. “Since 1984, over 1,700 recruits have successfully completed this training. I applaud the brave men and women who have taken up the call to serve by ensuring the safety and security of their fellow New Yorkers in communities across the state.”
