WATERVILLE, N.Y. — The Herkimer Magicians ran off 28 straight points in the first half at Brothertown Stadium Friday and defeated Waterville/Madison 52-20 for their fourth win in a row.
Brennen Thompson ran 19 yards for the game’s first touchdown but herkimer missed the extra points and Waterville/Madison pulled even at 6 on the first of Jon Piersma’s three touchdown passes.
Austin Mills ran 52 yards for the touchdown that broke the tie and Herkimer led 12-6 after the opening period. Thompson’s second touchdown run and two more by Mills helped Herkimer (5-1, 4-1 D East) open a 34-6 halftime lead.
Mills, who ran for two-point conversion and passed for another during the second quarter, added a touchdown pass to Zach Steele in the second half when Thompson and Anthony Luppino each ran for a score. Mills ran for 159 yards in the win while Thompson ran for 81.
Ryan Fahy led the Herkimer defense with three sacks and nine total tackles.
Piersma threw touchdown passes of eight and 19 yards to Zach Sawyer and 53 to Luke Lachmann. The loss was the second in three games following a 3-0 start by the Indians (4-2, 3-2 D East).
The Magicians finish the regular season with a home game Friday against Sauquoit Valley.
