  • NUSHwalk to honor Anusha Yagey’s memory

    • email print
  • The first NUSHwalk will take place on Oct. 19.
Participants will meet at 10 a.m. at the Holland Patent High School entrance on Thompson Road in Holland Patent.
The Yagey family and the Roback family invite everyone to walk alongside them not only to honor Anusha Yagey’s memory, but in remembrance of all who have died.
Anusha Yagey, 16, died on Feb. 12 as a result of injuries sustained in a motor vehicle accident on state Route 365. He was on his way to school with his brother.
Proceeds will be designated to the Anusha Yagey Memorial Scholarship Fund and to the Holland Patent sports programs. The families’ dreams are to earmark future funds to extend the scholarship to additional schools and to develop consistent grief counsel and programs for children and young adults and to grow the planned annual event nationwide.
On Thanksgiving 2012 while helping with dishes Yagey expressed gratitude for having the freedom to choose from the bounty before him and for the ability to leave the room and come back to an unscathed plate. He spent his first seven years in an orphanage in Thailand where his food was often taken from him by the “bigger boys.” In celebration of Yagey, participants are asked to bring a nonperishable food item for the local food pantry.
