The National Council On Aging has website, www.benefitscheckup.org, that can help people age 55 and older find benefit programs that help pay for medications, health care, food and utilities, according to a Herkimer County Office for the Aging news release.
NCOA is a nonprofit service and advocacy organization in Washington, D.C.
There are 2,000 federal, state and private benefit programs available to help adults 55 years of age and older that need help paying for prescription drugs, health care, utilities and other basic needs, according to the release. The website asks a series of questions to help identify benefits that could save individuals money and cover costs of everyday expenses. After answering the questions individuals will get a report that describes the programs they may get help with, and they can apply for many programs online or they can print an application form.
Individuals who have a need and would like to see what help they may be eligible for may go to www.BenefitsCheckUp.org.
