A 10-foot-tall metal elk sculpture weighing hundreds of pounds has been stolen from the lawn of an upstate New York inn.
The head of Cherry Valley Artworks tells the Oneonta Daily Star that the sculpture was recently stolen from outside the Tryon Inn, located in the rural Otsego County village 50 miles west of Albany.
Artist Wendy Klemperer of Brooklyn and Keene, N.H., created the sculpture for a 24-piece sculpture trail exhibited in Cherry Valley last year. She says her elk sculpture is 10 feet high by 10 feet long and weighs between 800 and 1,000 pounds.
The arts group says the elk was the most popular piece on the sculpture trail. The theft has been reported to state police.
