  • WEST WINFIELD, N.Y. — The Holland Patent Golden Knights jumped ahead 17-0 early in Saturday’s game and defeated Mt. Markham 24-7.
Cody Bliss threw two touchdown passes and ran for a score for the Golden Knights (3-3, 3-3 C East). After throwing the first of three interceptions on the game’s opening drive, he tossed a 36-yard touchdown pass to Devin Franco to open the game’s scoring. The Golden Knights added a 35-yard Kinsey Williams field goal on their next drive.
A fumble on the second play of the second quarter gave Holland Patent possession in Mt. Markham territory again and Bliss scrambled 42 yards for another score, breaking the plane of the goal line as Eric Taylor-Holmes grabbed him form behind.
Bliss added a 25-yard touchdown pass to Ryan Halpin in the fourth quarter to put Holland Patent up 24-0. Bliss had been sacked by Adam Rodick and Zach Utter on the previous play and the Golden Knights scored on third-and-15.
Kyle Yager set the Mustangs’ offense up inside Holland Patent’s 5-yard line twice in the fourth quarter. His 72-yard kickoff return gave Mt. Markham possession at the 3 and the Mustangs turned the ball over on downs at the 20 following a fourth-down sack. Two plays later, Yager intercepted a pass and ran the ball back to the 4, setting up Josh Fargo’s touchdown run with 2:19 left in the game.
Holland Patent also failed to take advantage of a short field in the first half. Ryan Halpin returned a punt 54 yards to the Mt. Markham 2 in the second quarter and the Golden Knights turned the ball over on downs after netting a loss of one yard.
Holland Patent turned the ball over five times. Adam Westbrook intercepted two passes for Mt. Markham.
Taylor-Holmes ran for a team-high 81 yards on 21 carries for the Mustangs (0-6, 0-5 C East). Mike Tanzillo added 16 carries for 44 yards and Westbrook had five for 32.
Bliss threw for 189 yards and ran for 94. Halpin caught six passes for 92 yards and Franco had four catches for 82 yards.
The Mustangs head to Utica Saturday for their regular season finale against Notre Dame’s Jugglers.
