  • Nettie June Hayes, 80, of Newport-Gray Road, died unexpectedly on Oct. 20, 2013, at her home.
    Mrs. Hayes was born on June 10, 1933, in Gloversville, a daughter of the late Edward and Marjorie Frasier. She graduated from Johnstown High School and on Dec. 9, 1950, was united in marriage with Charles E. Hayes, Sr., in Fonda. She assisted her husband for many years in the operation of dairy farms and was a dedicated homemaker and mother. Charles preceded her in death on March 9, 2013, following a blessed union of 62 years.
    June was a member of the Newport United Methodist Church and Post No. 4915 VFW Auxiliary, Herkimer. She also served on the town of Norway election board. Her greatest joy was her family and she will be sadly missed by both her family and friends. June loved flowers and tending to her garden.
    Survivors include nine children, Gloria Snyder, of Norway, Leroy (Laurie) Hayes, of Richmondville, Patricia (Andy) DiFillippo, of Newport, Stanley (Bonnie) Hayes, of Norway, Jerry (Jennifer) Hayes, of Norway, Karen (Gregory) Campbell, of Ellsworth, Iowa, Sharon (Robert) MacKay, of Norway, Charles Hayes, Jr. (Tanya Burdick), of Schuyler, and Frederick (Rhonda) Hayes, of Norway; one brother, Gene Frasier, of Johnstown; 31 grandchildren; 34 great-grandchildren; two brothers-in-law, Ronald Cook, of Fonda, and Albert Maidment, of Gloversville; four sisters-in-law, Diane Frasier, of Lassellsville, June Frasier, of Northville, Blanche Hayes, of Johnstown, and Lucille Barker, of Gloversville; and several nieces and nephews. In addition to her husband, she was predeceased by a son, Edward C. Hayes; two brothers, Carlton and Dewey Frasier; and three sisters, Beatrice Herringshaw, Shirley Maidment and Linda Cook.
    Funeral services will be held at Autenrith Funeral Home, Newport, on Thursday at 11 a.m. with the Rev. Deborah Waldron, pastor of the Newport United Methodist Church, officiating. Interment will follow in the Newport Cemetery. Calling hours at the funeral home are Wednesday from 6 to 9 p.m.
