WKTV, the local NBC affiliate and the oldest television station in Utica, is being sold for $16 million to Robert S. Prather, Jr., former president and chief operating officer of Gray Television, pending final approval from the Federal Communications Commission.
According to documents from the FCC, the new owner will be WKTV LLC, in Atlanta. The “sole member” of Atlanta’s WKTV is Heartland Media LLC.
Prather — who resigned from his post from Altanta-based Gray Television in June — is the “managing member” of Heartland Media LLC.
The application, submitted by WKTV’s current owners Smith Media License Holdings, LLC, was signed by Prather on Friday, while the asset purchase agreement outlining details of the sale — including the $16 million price tag — was dated Oct. 1.
It is unknown if the pending sale will affect the station’s day-to-day operations. A call to WKTV was not immediately returned.
