LITTLE FALLS, N.Y. — The Frankfort-Schuyler Maroon Knights wrapped up a second-place Class C East finish Saturday with their 36-6 win over the Little Falls Mounties.
The loss snapped a two-game winning streak for Little Falls (2-5, 1-5 C East) on homecoming weekend.
A two-yard touchdown run by Rahmere Greene, his first as a Mountie, pulled Little Falls within two points in the first quarter. A false start moved the Mounties back on their conversion attempt and Brian Ewanyk’s pass went high off the hands of receiver Tyler Wallace, allowing the Maroon Knights (5-2, 5-1 C East) to keep an 8-6 lead.
Frankfort-Schuyler struck back quickly, driving 61 yards in four plays with Mitchel Shortt running four yards for his second touchdown of the day less than a minute after Little Falls had scored. Justin Kiesow ran in the conversion for a 16-6 lead.
Shortt streaked 64 yards down the visitors’ sideline after catching a pass from Joe DeSarro and scored a touchdown on the game’s first play from scrimmage. After Michael Irons intercepted a pass, the Maroon Knights fumbled the ball away on the first play of their next possession; two of Frankfort-Schuyler’s first six offensive plays were touchdowns.
Greene, a transfer who made his Mountie debut one week earlier, had three carries for 33 yards earlier on Little Falls’ 12-play, 60-yard scoring drive. He ended up with a team-high 94 yards on 11 carries Saturday.
An interception by Jesse Talbot ended one Frankfort-Schuyler drive at the Mounties’ 16-yard line in the second quarter but DeSarro threw a 29-yard touchdown pass to Rich Morocco on the third play after the Maroon Knights got the ball back.
The Maroon Knights led 22-6 at halftime and added a pair of touchdowns in the fourth quarter, one on a short run by Shortt and the other a run by Parker Goldsmith.
Shortt ran for 113 yards on 20 carries. DeSarro completed six of his 11 pass attempts for 145 yards and ran for 62 yards on seven carries; he also had one of the team’s three interceptions. Kiesow ran for 80 yards on 11 carries.
Frankfort-Schuyler drew the fourth seed for Section III’s Class C playoffs and will be home for Friday’s quarterfinal against General Brown (6-1, 4-1 C North).
Little Falls plays a crossover game Friday at Canastota.
