  • The Case-Young Concert Series will present a program of solo works for piano performed by Christine Diwyk at 3 p.m. on Sunday, Oct. 27, in the auditorium of Owen D. Young Central School, state Route 80 in Van Hornesville.
The concert, presented by the Catskill Conservatory, in association with the Van Hornesville Community Corporation, is part of a 40-year collaboration between the two organizations.
Diwyk will present an hour of music for solo piano by American composers, including Aaron Copland, Edward MacDowell, George Gershwin, Charles T. Griffes, John Adams, Frederic Rzewski and William Bolcom.
The program will be free and open to all; tickets and reservations are not needed.
A native of Gary, Ind., who studied at the University of Indiana’s Jacobs School of Music, Diwyk lives in New York City, where she enjoys a career as a solo artist, chamber musician and teacher. A former winner of Artist International’s Young Musician Auditions, she made her Carnegie Hall debut as a result of winning that award and has gone on to perform in many of America’s premiere concert halls, while winning several other competitions. She has performed numerous concerts in Oneonta and the surrounding area, including solo recitals, chamber music programs and concerts with the Catskill Symphony Orchestra. She has also served as Artist-In-Residence at Colgate University. In addition to her musical career, she is the co-founder of Musicians for Peace, an organization dedicated to raising funds for humanitarian causes.
The program was originally scheduled for presentation at the Windfall Dutch Barn on July 4, as part of the Catskill Conservatory’s Quiet Concert for the Fourth series. However, the program had to be cancelled due to the floods that struck the Mohawk Valley the week before, leaving most of the roads in the area either closed or impassable.
Donations will be accepted to help with ongoing flood-relief projects in the community.
