  • EAST HERKIMER, N.Y. — Thousand Islands got on the board first Wednesday and did not let up in its 3-0 win over the Herkimer Magicians.
The win on the road moves the Vikings, seeded ninth in Class C, into the Section III quarterfinals.
Tiger Chapman put Thousand Islands (9-7-0) on the board late in the first half. Chapman’s unassisted goal broke a scoreless tie 2:23 before halftime. The Magicians (6-10-1) had missed a chance earlier in the half when they failed to put a shot on the goal.
The Vikings struck again nine minutes into the second half. Austin Marshall chipped the ball over Austin Perry when the Herkimer goalkeeper came out to challenge his rush and Tanner Docteur volleyed the ball into the open net with his head.
Once again, Thousand Islands beat Herkimer with its counterpunch. Zoltan Csoknyay had led a herkimer rush at the far end of the field moments earlier, beating his defender on the right side and leading Andrew Stilwell with a pass into the box. Thousand Islands goalie Sam Ada smothered the ball as Stilwell attempted a sliding shot.
A takedown in the box netted Thousand Islands a penalty kick in the 51st minute but Docteur sent his shot high over the crossbar, leaving the Vikings with their 2-0 lead. Six minutes later, the Vikings got the ball behind Perry again, only to have Magician Colin Acker stop the initial shot on the goal line. Thousand Islands got the ball back inside the box and Zach Mason scored with an assist from Aaron Zehr.
Perry was credited with seven saves and finished the match despite being shaken up when he took a knee to the head in the second half.
Neither Ada nor Noah Ingerson, who entered the goal with five minutes left to play, was credited with a save for Thousand Islands in the shutout.
With the win, the Vikings continue their season Friday when they travel to Fabius-Pompey to meet the No. 1 seed.
