  • CLAYTON, N.Y. — Twenty-four hours after the Thousand Islands boys visited Herkimer eliminated the Magicians from the Section III playoffs, the Herkimer girls returned the favor to the Vikings.
Herkimer’s Magicians made the trip to Clayton Thursday and knocked the Vikings, ranked 11th in the state in Class C and seeded fourth for the C-1 sectional tournament, out of postseason play.
Thursday’s match went scoreless into the second half and remained so until McKenzie Pine netted a goal for the Magicians (12-4-1) 7:45 into the second half. The goal ended a rush that started in Herkimer’s defensive zone with Lindsey Parese playing the ball up the field. Parese played the ball to Maddie Renshaw who moved it to Caitlyn Roorda who, in turn, sent it forward to Hannah DeLude. DeLude’s final pass provided the assist on what proved to be the only goal of the match.
“It was fantastic, just a great group effort,” Herkimer coach Glenn Manning said.
Chelsea Jory made four saves for Herkimer while Aliceson Cornaire had the same total for Thousand Islands.
