  • Robinson Brothers Home Appliance Store, 10 W. Main St., Mohawk, observed its 75th year in business this year.
“I'm glad that I can carry on a tradition,” said Kim Robinson, a third-generation owner, during an interview at the store on Friday.
Both he and his daughter, Kara Robinson, store manager, emphasized their motto: “The house that good service built.”
“Our focus is the customer,” said Kara Robinson.
Robinson said they are able to compete with bigger retailers because of the rebates they offer on their products. They also employ two service repairpersons, including Travis Robinson, a member of the fourth-generation of Robinsons to work at the store.
The business started in 1938, when brothers Alton and Lloyd Robinson opened the store at 10 W. Main St., which is where the company is still operating today.
The business was passed down to Alton's son, Alba, and his wife, Diane Robinson, before being passed to Kim Robinson.
Kara Robinson said the business first started out selling vacuums, before expanding to home appliances. She said they were the first business to sell Maytag appliances in Herkimer County.
Robinson Brothers sells home appliances including washers, dryers and hot water heaters. Kim Robinson said a lot of customers needed these appliances replaced after the historical flooding that happened in the village over the summer.
“It was a very, very busy summer,” he said. “For us, it was about getting the local customers up and running again.”
According to its website, Robinson Brothers also sell refrigerators, freezers, ovens, dishwashers and other kinds of appliances. They also sell Whirlpool Maytag, Hotpoint, GE, Amana, Frigidaire and KitchenAid brands.
