  • State and local law enforcement agencies will be manning sobriety checkpoints across the state this weekend as part of the annual Halloween STOP-DWI Crackdown.
Checkpoints, additional patrols and other targeted enforcement measures will be in effect from Wednesday through Sunday in an effort to deter drunken driving, according to a news release.
Law enforcement agencies also will be cracking down on drivers who are impaired by drugs, both illegal and prescription, the release stated.
Drinking and driving contributed to 52 percent of all crash-related fatalities nationwide on Halloween nights between 2007 and 2011, according to the National Highway Traffic Safety Administration.
