  • William E. Ackley, 91, of Forge Hill Estates, passed away peacefully at home on Tuesday, Oct. 29, 2013.
    Bill was born on March 29, 1922, in Frankfort, the son of the late Leslie and Mary (Garvey) Ackley. He was educated in Frankfort and served in the U.S. Army during World War II. On Dec. 28, 1946, Bill married the former Jule Guinane in Plains, Pa. Bill was employed as a production supervisor at Remington Arms Co., retiring in 1982. Bill was a communicant of Annunciation Church in Ilion and served as a Eucharistic minister. He was also a member of Ilion Elks Lodge No. 1444, Crowley-Barnum American Legion Post No. 25, the AARP and was a life member of the DAV.
    Bill is survived by his wife, Jule, of Ilion; a son, John and his wife, Valerie Ackley, of Saratoga; a daughter, Marilyn and her husband, Salvatore Guarniere, of Haymarket, Va.; five grandchildren; and seven great-grandchildren. He also leaves a sister-in-law, Mildred Ackley, of Utica. Bill was predeceased by two brothers, Leslie and John "Gil," and two sisters, Marjorie Leach and Mary Mills.
    A Mass of Christian Burial will be celebrated for Bill on Monday, Nov. 4, 2013, at 1 p.m. at The Church of the Annunciation in Ilion; Fr. Paul Catena will officiate, assisted by Deacon James Bower. Friends may call on Sunday, Nov. 3, from 4 to 7 p.m. at Whiter-Hendrix Funeral Home, Inc., 100 Otsego St., Ilion. Interment will follow in Mount Olivet Cemetery in Frankfort. Friends are asked to consider memorial donations to: Smile Train, P.O.
