State police say an 11-year-old boy has died after being hit by a minivan while he rode his bicycle across a rural central New York road.
Troopers say Elijah Dibble was riding his bike across Route 20 when he was hit by a vehicle shortly before 1 p.m. Monday in the town of Bridgewater, in southern Oneida County 45 miles southeast of Syracuse.
Police say the boy suffered head and chest trauma and was pronounced dead around 5:30 p.m. at Upstate University Hospital in Syracuse.
Troopers say it appears Elijah rode his bike directly into the vehicle. Officials say the 27-year-old man driving the van couldn’t avoid the boy and hasn’t been charged.
