A 49-year-old man has pleaded guilty to second-degree murder in the fatal shooting of his wife at their central New York home earlier this year.
Local media outlets report that Larry Utter pleaded guilty in an Oneida County court on Monday, several weeks before he was scheduled to stand trial for killing 45-year-old Stacey Utter.
Police say he shot her twice with a shotgun at their home in Forestport on June 11.
Utter claimed the first shot was accidental, and that he shot her a second time because he didn’t want to see her suffer.
Utter faces 24 years to life in prison when he’s sentenced on Dec. 23.
