The Family Advocacy Center Board of Directors has announced Mary Ellen Busa has been named as the center's executive director.
Busa has been employed with the Family Advocacy Center for the past 20 years, serving families and individuals with developmental disabilities as a Medicaid service coordinator and educational advocate. She has also assisted parents with Committee for Special Education meetings, insuring her consumers receive appropriate services to enhance and be successful in their academic setting. Busa has assisted families with obtaining legal guardianship for their disabled family member and has completed numerous trainings related to the field of Medicaid service coordination.
Busa was employed with Upstate Cerebral Palsy prior to working with the Family Advocacy Center. There, she worked with children with developmental disabilities and individuals diagnosed with epilepsy. She is a member of the Notary Public Association, has completed volunteer work for the YWCA and has been a member of numerous committees within the local Office for People With Development Disabilities system.
Busa is a graduate of Mohawk Valley Community College where she obtained an associate's degree in applied science. She obtained a bachelor's degree from Utica College in social work. She resides in Sauquoit with her husband and three children.
The Family Advocacy Center is a nonprofit agency that services Oneida, Herkimer, Madison, Lewis and Oswego counties. The center provides family support services that include advocacy services at the school, employment and residential settings for those individuals with developmental disabilities. The agency also provides Medicaid service coordination through the home and community based waiver services program.
